Video Activities

Video Activity on Emotions in Spanish (Cómo está vs Cómo es): Here's an activity where students can practice Cómo está vs Cómo es while watching a fun video from the site: http://gloria.tv/?media=600859&language=KiaLEJq2fBR. There's a warm-up, the video activity itself, and a post activity or homework task where students describe family members based on the questions Cómo está and Cómo es. The warm up needs a picture, which is not on the activity because I did not create it. However, it's on my website https://gramatichica.wixsite.com/laprofesoragil/las-personalidades-y-emociones. Simply scroll down to Video Activities section, and you should find the image listed as Image 1 for Emociones y Video. You can download the image for free and put it in the worksheet easily. Everything's in Word, so you can edit as necessary. Great for Spanish 1!

Stations Activities

Simpsons Ser y Estar Stations: Here is a stations activity to practice ser and estar with the characters of the Simpsons. There is a quick warm up and a stations (or centers) activity. In this activity, students work in small groups and visit various stations around the classroom. At each station, there is a picture of a Simpsons character and a short text about about that character in Spanish using the verbs ser and estar. The images are not in the document because they are not mine. But they are on my website FOR FREE: https://gramatichica.wixsite.com/laprofesoragil/las-personalidades-y-emociones. Just scroll down the webpage to see the relevant pictures for this activity. Everything's written in Word, so you can edit as necessary. Great for Spanish 1!

Other Activities

Practice With Ser, Estar, Tener, Hacer: Dialogicals and Search and Find: Here are several activities to help students practice using the verbs ser, estar, tener, and hacer. Specifically, there is a:

  • Warm-Up: It's a very simple matching task students complete when they arrive to class,

  • Search and Find Task: Students move around to ask one question from the worksheet to each student in class,

  • Dialogicals: Students work in pairs to determine whether a series of questions and answers are logical or illogical and why, and

  • 2 Basic Puzzles: There is a wordfind and crossword puzzle with relevant vocabulary from the other activities. These puzzles can be used as homework or as an exit ticket. These activities can be used with a unit on these basic verbs (ser, estar, tener, hacer) or on a unit on family.

Everything's written in Word, so you can edit as necessary. Great for Spanish 1!

Tests and Assessments

Video for Quiz 1 Ser vs Estar: Trini Salgado en Mexico

Quiz for Ser/Estar Spanish 1: Here's a quiz designed to assess students' knowledge of ser and estar. There are 4 sections:

  • A video section NOT authentic. You can evaluate this video on my website https://gramatichica.wixsite.com/laprofesoragil/las-personalidades-y-emociones, Scroll down to the Tests and Assessments section. The video should be available for download for free if you wish. It is also located on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jefgt0ASKU. However, I noticed that there is no sound with this video on YouTube, so you might want to just go to my website and download it that way. In this section, students will match different discriptions (adjectives) with characters from the video. After, students will write sentences about the characters using the adjectives and either ser or estar.

  • A fil-in-the-blank section where students use either ser or estar

  • A dialogical section where students decide if the question and answer pair is either logical or illogical. Then students answer the question about their own families.

The activities I have on my website https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jefgt0ASKU are good preparation for this quiz. Everything's in Word, so you can edit as necessary. Great for Spanish 1!
