El alfabeto y las sílabas
Fun Stuff!
Spelling Bee/Concurso: Spanish 1: Here's a fun activity for students learning the Spanish alphabet: a spelling bee! There is a warm up (paired activity for students to practice spelling), a small group activity for students to continue practice spelling, and a spelling bee, where each groups sends its best speller. The others can help their representative, but the representative must do the spelling. In my experience, students enjoy the competition. Everything's in Word, so you edit to meet the needs of your students. Great for Spanish 1!

Learning the Alphabet: Spanish 1: Here are several small activities that can make up an introductory lesson on the Spanish alphabet. There's a warm up, a short dictation section, two videos (with their URL locations - both found on YouTube) for students to watch, a partnered activity where students say the alphabet to each other, and a homework task where students make flashcards (you will need to provide 3x5 index cards). It's in Word, so you can edit it to meet the needs of your students. Great for beginner elementary or middle school Spanish learners!

Interpretive Listening: Presentations and Spelling in Spanish: Here's an interpretive listening activity with a variety of ways to introduce and present other people (te presento a, for example). The questions about this text also include a spelling component (how do you spell the name Miguel, for example). There is a warm-up, DIFFERENTIATED questions (challenging, standard and remedial) about the listening text, and a post-listening activity, where students create a dialogue similar to the one they watched. Everything's written in Word, so you can edit as necessary. Great for Spanish 1!

Dividing Syllables 1: Listening for Spanish 2 or beyond & Heritage Speakers: Here is a group of activities that introduce students to dividing syllables in Spanish. There is a warm-up, an short instruction section with 2 options ( students can take notes with fill-in-the-blanks or completed notes and no fill-in-the-blanks), 3 Doki videos (all are AUTHENTIC RESOURCES), a paired activity to practice the instruction and homework. Everything's written in Word, so you can edit as necessary. This may be challenging for Spanish 1 students. Great for students in Spanish 2 or beyond! Also great for a Heritage speakers class!
Stations Activities
Estaciones: El Alfabeto: Here is a Stations activity to help students practice spelling. There is a warm-up included. Each station has a different theme: names (which you will need to add) places, greetings, other words, words with gue, gui que qui, and good-byes. Although you don't have to, you may also wish to use a differentiation cube (which is used in each station). Differentiation cubes, where you put a different item in each slot of the cube, can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Carson-Dellosa-Publishing-Differentiated-Instruction-Cubes/dp/1604189274/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=differentiation+cubes&qid=1550661369&s=gateway&sr=8-1. This activity gets students moving around the room, so it's great for ADD and ADHD kids. It's also written in Word so you can change what you need to meet the needs of your students. Great for beginner Spanish learners!
Communicative Activities
Other Activities
Dividing Syllables Spanish: Pass the Paper Activity: Here is a pass the paper activity, where students have a short reading and divide syllables for each of the sentences in the text. There is a warm-up, short instruction on dividing syllables, a pre-reading task (K-W-L chart), a short reading with pictures, and a collaborative activity I call pass the paper. In this activity students are in big groups of 10. In this big group, students pair up and divide syllables for each word in a sentence from the reading. Once done, the pair passes the paper to the next pair in the group and works on dividing syllables from the next sentence. It is a take on a collaborative writing task where students write one sentence each in a story or paragraph. Once the activity is complete, students return to their K-W-L chart and add 4 things they've learned from the reading and activities. Everything is written in Word, so you can edit as necessary. To avoid copyright problems, I've taken out the images I've used to illustrate the story, but I've put them on my website, http://gramatichica.wixsite.com/laprofesoragil/los-n. They are FREE to download. Just scroll down to the "other activities" section and download the images. Then you can insert them in the document as necessary. This document is good for Spanish 2 and beyond. It can also be great for Spanish Heritage students!

Using Written Accents in Spanish:Searching for Answers and Two Lines Activities: Here's a series of activities to help students understand how to use written accents. It assumes that students understand how to divide syllables (I have activities for this skill, too, if you are interested). This series includes a warm up, a short instruction on syllable stress and written accents, an activity where students look for answers from others in the class (which is great for getting students up and moving), a two lines activity, where students ask and answer questions about written accents, and a final activity that can be used as a homework assignment. Everything's written in Word, so you can edit as necessary. This activity can be good for Spanish 2 and beyond. It will probably be too difficult for Spanish 1. This activity might be great for Spanish Heritage speakers, too.
Quizzes and Projects
Quiz: El Alfabeto (Spanish): Here's a quiz based on the theme of el alfabeto. There's a dictation section, a matching section, a dialogue completion and a spell-aloud section. It goes great with my other activities on this theme. It's written in Word, so you can edit as necessary. Great for Spanish 1!
Project: El Alfabeto (Spanish): Here's a fun project for students to review the alphabet in Spanish. Students will make a poster of the alphabet, including one word to illustrate each letter. There are instructions, suggestions on appropriate types of paper and paper size, and there's a rubric to help you and the students better prepare for a proper finished product. It's written in Word, so you can edit as necessary. Great for Spanish 1!
Quiz: Spanish Dividing Syllables and Written Accents: Here's a quiz that tests students' ability to divide syllables and use written accents. There's an AUTHENTIC video section, a section on the rules of syllable division, and a dialogue section that tests students' ability to appropriately add written accents. There is also a warm-up to be used prior to the quiz. Great for Spanish 2 and beyond or Spanish Heritage classes. It's all written in Word so you can edit as necessary.
